Final Ta Da!

Presentation

Introduction:
Technology has been too easily utilized to distract, occupy and entertain children instead of encouraging or teaching them interactive creative play.

This project focused on “What creative, interactive and social services are available for children within their own environment?” “How can design help decrease the amount of technology used in young ages?” The aim for this project was to explore, investigate and utilize design techniques that will help promote creative play.

Ta Da! is an all-you-can-make mobile service giving 6-12 year old girls the opportunity to be creative with jewellery within their own environment. A range of design outputs were used to encourage parents and their children to book the service.
Authors such as Dr. Seuss, Tony Ross and Lauren Child all have simple, eye-catching and memorable illustrations in their books. I chose to use them as inspiration because not only do I love their books, but their simple styles are what make them so easy to remember. My illustrations are a set of 5 different girls and has potential to become a bigger series with more characters in the future.
Paul Rand and Saul Bass were also inspirations throughout my project and influenced my end design outputs. *show and discuss each output in order*
Poster:
First we have the poster and van, which work together to promote the service to pedestrians, motorists and public areas such as schools, malls, libraries, bus stops and train stations. The pattern on the poster was a combined influence from Saul Bass and Paul Rand, with their use of bold typography, bright vibrant colours and simple shapes. The colours were chosen simply to enhance the ‘cuteness’ and ‘quirkiness’ of the illustrations in the front.
As this is a mobile service that provides all equipment and material, a ‘portable billboard’, the van, supports and advertises the brand in a wider field. Strategically placed on the back and sides, the logo and illustration has been enlarged to utilize the van’s space as it would be seen more clearly and easy to remember if the information is large and simple.
Website:
Here behind me is the website. It’s especially for parents to book the service. *direct them through the booking page* I made this site using Wix, however I feel I could improve on the aesthetics in the future. I included the link to the facebook page and it’s only found on here due to the purpose of attempting to limit the use of technology.
Facebook page:
*Click the link straight to Facebook, might have to log in*
This is for parents to see reviews of the service, share and like the page, get involved with competitions and prizes, and share photos of them and their children enjoying the service.
Bags:
*show one at a time, with added outputs in them ready*
The bags are for the children after each session as another ‘portable billboard’ to support and advertise the brand. These bags can be reused for school or work purposes where they can be seen and talked about. There is huge opportunity for a range of collectable bags, and I believe both these bags are eye-catching and simple. On this bag, you’re holding the necklace, and on the back, is the other four characters, and the other bag has the pattern adapted from the poster. The bags contain extra designed outputs to enhance both the advertising and ‘cuteness’ factors.
…These outputs are:

Coupon:
Like a discount voucher, this coupon encourages parents to continue booking the service, as the fourth booking is free. This also encourages children to want to participate in more sessions, as each booking gives them a cut-out onto the numbered side of their coupon. Each time the service is booked, the illustrations ‘wear a crown’. I believe it’s exciting and encouraging for both the child and parent to book more sessions.
Flyer:
The parents can see what their child did at their friend’s party, what the service offers and how to make enquiries with this flyer. This enables them to consider hosting their own sessions when considering ‘party’ or ‘just because’ ideas for their own children. The flyer can be put on the fridge for guests to see, which becomes ‘a topic of interest'.
Badges:
These are a collectable range which encourages children to want to participate in future sessions so they can collect the set. Each bag contains the large logo badge plus one of these smaller collectable badges. There is huge potential for more illustrations being created to add to the series as they act as another form of advertisement, ‘word of mouth’ and excite children to collect the set. The illustrations and colors were adapted from all design outputs, and each character has her own color which I thought was quite cute and adds a bit more individuality to them all.
Sticker set:
Stickers have been around for years and continue to be a fun collectable item for young children. I remember loving them when I was a kid. Like the other collectables, the sticker have potential for a wider collection with additional characters. They are easy to peel and stick, therefore no unsafe tools are required to remove them from the sheet. Because of resource purposes, these ones are not ready to peel, however on your reports you will see how they work.
*here are your reports*

Conclusion:
My intentions of creating and promoting a mobile jewellery service for girls have been shown through design and I believe they are simple, eye-catching and informative. This service and design has potential to reach the market, setting out to change the way people see technology versus creative play. If the logo is readable, the name is say able and the content is memorable, then I believe it will become doable. My branding solution highlights the key points of difference for the business while looking contemporary and exciting. Vehicles and bags become portable billboards, badges and stickers are collectable fun.
Whether it’s for a birthday party, or a weekend of inside fun, they are there to make them say “Ta Da!!”
